Regional Science Parks (RSPs)
In 2012, the Cabinet approved a resolution endorsing the national strategy for the development of Regional Science Parks (RSPs) and the establishment of RSPs in the country. This included the Northern Science Park (Chiang Mai Province), the Northeast Science Park (Khon Kaen Province), and the Southern Science Park (Songkhla Province), with 16 partner universities in the initial phase. In 2018, during a Cabinet road meeting, a resolution was passed to establish the Lower Northeast Science Park (Nakhon Ratchasima Province).
By 2020, with the establishment of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI), which consolidated various entities and missions related to higher education, science, and technology, the number of partner universities in the Regional Science Park network increased to 44 institutions.
Regional Science Parks serve as a key mechanism for promoting and developing knowledge through the application of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI). They provide essential services such as facilities, infrastructure, and resources to facilitate and commercialize research outcomes from regional universities. These provisions help convert academic research into commercial value, contributing to regional economic growth.
